Citrus mitis, the Calamondin, is a miniature orange tree that originates from tropical regions of China and Japan. It grows well in pots and can be kept as an indoor plant. The plant blooms from March to June. The small white flowers will perfume your whole house. After pollination, they will grow small orange-like fruits about 3-5 cm wide. They are edible, but very acid. The Calamondin is more cultivated for its decorative aspect than for its fruits. The foliage is evergreen, silky and dark green. The leaves are rather small and round. It is easy to cultivate. Prune before the next blooming season. It is resistant to dry and hot interiors in winter. Can be grown outside in the hotter months but must be brought inside during frost and winter. Makes a wonderful indoor bonsai and is super easy to grow.
